Aga Khan's Visit to the USA
11 - 19 April 2008

 

His Highness the Aga Khan arrived in Austin, Texas on 11th April at the start of his eight day Golden Jubilee visit to the United States. He visited Texas, California, Illinois and Georgia at the invitation of the Governors of the four states.

Georgia

His Highness the Aga Khan delivered the"Peterson Lecture" on Global Education and the Developing World to the Annual Meeting of the International Baccalaureate Organization, which was marking its 40th anniversary. The Aga Khan also met with Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue in Atlanta.

Illinois

In Chicago, the Aga Khan met with Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois. A luncheon was held in his honour at the Mid America Club.

In California, the Aga Khan held meetings in Los Angeles with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Aga Khan spoke about the great opportunities for partnership between the State of California and the Aga Khan Development Network. The Aga Khan also met with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.

Texas

While in Texas, the Aga Khan met with Governor Rick Perry at the State Capitol in Austin. A State Banquet in his honour was hosted by the Governor and First Lady of Texas. The Aga Khan also presided over the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding, in Austin, between the Aga Khan University and the University of Texas.
