Innovation Fund for Rural Development Call for Proposals:
Proposal Guidelines

The proposal should include a cover page with the information listed below and up to five pages (excluding annexes) covering the remainder of the information about the project.

Project Narrative
This should cover (a) the key questions that the proposed project will address; (b) significance of these questions within the framework of the current development scenario, particularly enhancement of rural livelihoods; (c) the innovative process/ processes that the proposed project will adopt; (d) a brief summary on the state of the art of the proposed innovativeness; (e) possibility of replication; (f) how the project setting is suited to provide learning opportunities; (g) the proposed approach, methodology and the nature of the innovation; (h) responsibility of partner agency(ies); and (i) time and task schedule. The time and task schedule should include milestones achieved in each quarter or the work towards a milestone which may be reached at a later stage.

Project deliverable
A description of the project deliverable, in terms of establishment of new systems, improvements in institutional operations, enhancements in the quality of engagements, adoption and integration of knowledge systems, etc., which will lead to enhancement in rural livelihoods.

Project budget
Provide a budget in Indian Rupees for each quarter of the proposed project. Clearly indicate contributions from the agency (ies), other donors and from the AKF Innovation Fund. AKF expects some contribution from the grantee as well. Specify if these contributions are tied to a specific line in the budget. If the project is a multi-year initiative, provide a column for each year. The budget must include a breakdown of expenses (differentiate overheads from costs directly related to each activity) along the lines given below:

1. Personnel
2. Training
3. Supplies and materials
4. Travel and transportation
5. Project-specific administration (communication, office-rent etc.)
6. Activities: expenses directly related to each activity
7. Evaluation (if carried out by a separate organisation)
8. Contingencies (no more than 5 percent of the total budget, to be used only with prior approval from AKF).
Annexes

Organisation: a short note on the implementing agency (1 page), covering (1) legal (and FCRA) status; (2) location of headquarters; (3) annual budget and sources of revenue for the last 3 years; (4) main areas of activity (geographic and sectoral); (5) key achievements; and (6) key strengths for implementing this project.

Letters of support: from partner agencies indicating their level of participation.

CVs of key personnel: 1 page on each, to cover education, key experience and relevant expertise to be provided to the project.
